God's Work First
Lures are made from dried Florida Palm branches. They Look Great hanging in restaurants and homes. The shape, width, length, and condition of the branch determines the design. They are meticulously cut, sanded, and painted. Either one or two "sawtooth" hangers are attached to the back of Lure. It is recommended to hang your lure on an appropriately applied screw attached to your wall

CAVU LURES caters to local residents, businesses, and friends only. These decorative Lures take quite some time to craft. They are not mass produced and can only be purchased via personal contact. You cannot place an order or purchase items on this site. Take a look in the "Lures Currently for Sale". Sold items are left on the site in case you want one like it.

Basic Process
It takes a couple months for a freshly cut branch to properly dry. As stated, the shape, size, and condition of the branch determines which type of lure will be created. Once the branch is cut with a Miter saw, finer cuts such as notches and grooves are made with more sensitive chisel tools. The branch is then "palm" sanded on both sides. Finally, manual "rasp" sanding is applied
The hook assembly is then attached to the lure. The hooks are often purchased at local Bait and Tackle shops. Other parts are often purchased at a local hardware store. Sparks fly when the hooks are cut with Dremel blades before attaching them to the "eyes" and homemade lure "rings". Pliers and an anvil-press are used to crimp all the connections. Next, "touch-ups" are applied. Finally, the lure gets at least two coats of Polycrylic MIN-WAX
Once sanding is complete, the lure gets one or two coats of primer paint. Once dried, "hook eye" holes are drilled and the "hanger" is attached. The branch is then painted with a gloss white base and, if need be, later painted with various colors such as neon green, pink, and yellow. Painting the lures' eyes are particularly time-consuming. A compass-cutter is used to get near prefect circles
